About the Role The Academic Success Center Psychology Stats Tutor provides academic tutoring services for Psychology Statistics to students on an individual basis or in small groups at Texas Wesleyan University. The role supports student success by helping learners develop effective study strategies and deepen their understanding of the subject matter.

What You'll Do

  • Provide tutoring services by maintaining a weekly schedule of available hours for appointments.
  • Attend tutor training workshops as required.
  • Keep accurate records of tutoring appointments by filing tutoring reports.
  • Maintain contact with professors in your subject of expertise in order to obtain pertinent materials for the ASC.
  • Assist undergraduate students with assignments.
  • Tutoring appointments are intended to assist students in becoming better students.
  • Assist with additional duties as needed such as covering the front desk, scheduling tutoring appointments, answering phones, organizing materials and maintaining information in the ASC.

What We're Looking For

  • Education, Certifications and/or Licenses: High school diploma/GED required. Successfully completed courses in subject area tutoring with a grade of “A” or “B” at Texas Wesleyan (exceptions upon discretion of the Director). Successfully demonstrate skills in subject by scoring the minimum required score on grammar and proofing test. Minimum GPA of 3.0 (exceptions upon discretion of the Director).
  • Experience: Formal or informal tutoring experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters pertaining to student’s privacy.
  • Ability to work independently in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to instruct others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competence in the subject matter.
  • Enjoy tutoring the subject for which services are being provided.
  • Effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success.
  • Work comfortably with people from various backgrounds.
  • Exhibit patience and positive attitudes in the learning environment.
  • Ability to provide and demonstrate quality customer service.
  • Pleasant and clearly understandable phone voice.
  • Strong organizational skills to work productively.
  • Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters, while complying with privacy (FERPA) regulations.
  • Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
