POSITION DETAILS

“At Baruch College we believe that student success is everyone’s responsibility”

Baruch College is a selective, urban, public college within CUNY, enrolling a very diverse undergraduate and graduate student body, the majority of whom are Pell-eligible. Baruch is nationally recognized for student outcomes, socioeconomic mobility, and value, while also facing the complexities common to large public institutions such as scale, affordability pressures, and coordination of student support across units.

Recent institutional analyses as part of the “Next Level Student Success” project highlight the need for stronger integration, clearer pathways, and scalable student success practices. The Office of Undergraduate Advisement supports this effort in alignment with the College’s Strategic Plan.

Joining the Office of Undergraduate Advisement, the Senior Academic Advisor provide services focused on next level student success centered in the field and profession of academic advisement. The Senior Academic Advisor provides holistic, integrated academic advising that supports students’ academic progress, personal development, and career readiness throughout their undergraduate journey.

The Senior Academic Advisor engages students in proactive, developmental advising conversations that include degree planning, exploration of academic pathways, and intentional incorporation of career readiness competencies such as internship planning, experiential learning opportunities, and post-graduation goal setting. This role assesses student needs, identifies academic and non-academic barriers to success, and delivers clear, accurate, and student-centered guidance on institutional policies, degree requirements, and administrative processes.

Working in a collaborative Success Team, the advisor coordinates referrals and collaborates closely with academic departments, student support services, and career services to ensure a coordinated and seamless support experience. In addition, the Senior Academic Advisor maintains ongoing communication with students and campus partners, documents all advising interactions in institutional systems, and tracks student progress and follow-through to support timely resolution of academic concerns.
