About the Role The Academic Advisor II is part of UD's Student Services for Athletes (SSA), supporting the academic success, development, and retention of varsity student-athletes by providing comprehensive advising and support services. Under SSA leadership, this role provides advising and support for a caseload across multiple programs, collaborating with coaches and campus partners to help athletes progress toward degree completion and NCAA eligibility.

What You'll Do

• Serve as the primary academic advisor for a designated caseload of student-athletes across multiple varsity programs; conduct regular advising meetings focused on course selection, degree progress, and eligibility; monitor progress and develop individualized academic success plans; coordinate tutoring and study hall; track progress toward NCAA and institutional requirements; provide updates to coaching staff and SSA leadership; ensure compliance with university policies and FERPA.
• Oversee academic support operations within the Whitney Athletic Center, including study hall monitoring and tutoring coordination; collaborate with learning specialists to support student-athletes with learning challenges; contribute to design and implementation of academic success programming.
• Advise student-athletes on career exploration, internships, networking, and skill development; assist in planning and execution of career development programming; maintain alumni relationships to cultivate networking opportunities and mentorship.
• Serve as a liaison between athletics and academic departments; collaborate with campus partners to connect student-athletes with resources including advising, counseling, disability support, and career services; participate in institutional initiatives to support student success and retention.
• Support coaching staff in recruiting by providing academic advising during official visits; communicate academic expectations and resources to prospective student-athletes and families; assist with academic evaluations of recruits as needed.
• May teach or co-teach a First Year Seminar course for student-athletes; support holistic development and make appropriate referrals as needed.
• Additional responsibilities include supervising graduate assistants, interns, and work-study students; travel with designated athletic teams for academic purposes or exam proctoring; perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in counseling, student affairs, higher education administration, education, or related field and three years of experience in academic advising, student development, or student support services, preferably within intercollegiate athletics or higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Strong knowledge of academic advising practices, student development theory, and retention strategies.
• Understanding of NCAA academic eligibility standards and institutional academic policies.
• Demonstrated ability to support students from diverse backgrounds; excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively.

Nice to Have

• Master’s degree preferred.
