About this role
As an Able Seafarer Engine onboard, you are responsible to assist in routine watchkeeping, maintenance, and cleaning in the Engine Room.
What you will contribute
Technical
- Assist with watches as assigned by the Second Engineer including fire and security rounds
- Assist with maintenance work and cleaning as ordered by the Second Engineer
- Assist with routine checks according to watchkeeping procedures
- Execute all orders given by the Chief Engineer, Second Engineer, or person in charge of the watch
- Record appropriate readings during watch and inform the engineer of any divergence from the average
Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE)
- Follow all safety measures as defined in the company’s Safety Management Systems
- Participate in regular drills and join emergency teams as required by the Safety Officer
- Report non-conformities, accidents involving personnel or vessel, and hazardous occurrences to the Company
Mission Support
- Share in the support and furtherance of the Christian community through lifestyle and exhortation
For This Role, You Will Need
STCW Certifications
- Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW III/5 Able Seafarer Engine
- Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW VI/1 Basic Training
- Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW VI/2 Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
- Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW VI/6-1 Security Awareness
- Certificate of Examination in accordance with STCW I/9 Medical Fitness and Minimum In-Service Eyesight

- Competent in Windows, Microsoft Office Programs
- Ability to communicate proficiently in English in both written and verbal forms

- Good judgement to escalate issues in a timely manner
Education and Advocacy
- Successful completion of Mercy Ships On boarding program will be required for commitments of 12 months or more
- Minimum of 12 months of sea time on vessels powered by main propulsion machinery of 3,000 KW or more.
