About the Role

Under the direction of the school principal and/or assistant principal, the teacher is responsible for the implementation of research-based instructional strategies that direct the learning process and achievement of assigned students by developing, nurturing, and sustaining a school and classroom culture conducive to student learning. All instruction provided for students will be individualized. This means that differences in individual learning style, rate of learning, level of maturation, and level of achievement will provide the basis for instructional decision-making. The Special education teacher is expected to serve all disabilities and gifted and talented in all grades including preschool utilizing a variety of support services and settings. What You'll Do

  • Implement research-based instructional strategies to direct the learning process and support student achievement under the supervision of the principal and/or assistant principal.

  • Provide individualized instruction, adjusting materials, pace, and methodology based on frequent assessment.

  • Plan short- and long-range programs using student achievement data (formative and summative) to determine effectiveness of instructional strategies.

  • Promote harmonious interpersonal relationships with students, parents, supervisors, administrators, staff, and community members; demonstrate flexibility, warmth, openness, and cooperativeness.

  • Use Rubicon Atlas to develop culture-based units that meet annual expectations.

  • Supervise and train instructional paraprofessionals providing services to students as needed.

  • Write and submit weekly lesson plans to the Principal and maintain digital copies.

  • Abide by district policies, ethics, and professional teaching standards.

  • Participate in educational committees and activities to promote professional growth and district goals.

  • Develop awareness of local culture and provide bicultural or multicultural instruction in response to community needs.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned. What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education required; Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Alaska Teacher Certificate required.

  • Three years of education experience preferred.

  • Experience with assessment, culturally based instruction, and Rubicon Atlas.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Inupiaq language/history/culture experience preferred. Nice to Have

  • Inupiaq language/history/culture experience preferred.
