911 Dispatcher

About the Role The City of Roanoke is seeking a dedicated 911 Dispatcher to operate Emergency and non-emergency calls for Police/Fire/EMS, coordinating public safety resources in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment.

What You'll Do

• Answer multi-line NG911 emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatch public safety personnel
• Listen to telephone and radio traffic under stressful conditions and prioritize accordingly
• Operate multi-channel public safety radio system
• Record and process requests for police/fire/EMS via telephone and radio using CAD
• Communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing; assist hearing/speech-impaired citizens using teletype devices
• Assign appropriate Public Safety personnel to routine or emergency calls using CAD
• Provide pre-arrival medical instructions per protocol with NAED compliance
• Document all activity in the CAD system and disseminate information quickly
• Monitor the National Weather Service and operate the City Emergency Warning System
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and communicate professionally
• Demonstrate trauma-informed practices when appropriate
• Work flexible hours to include nights, weekends, holidays; may be on-call; shifts of 8, 10, or 12 hours
• Attend to attendance policies and perform other duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or GED
• TCOLE Telecommunicator license or ability to obtain within 1 year
• Ability to pass background, drug, polygraph, psych, and medical screens
• Strong multitasking, data entry, and communication skills
• EMD certification required
• Valid Texas driver's license
• Ability to work in a high-stress environment and maintain composure

Nice to Have

• Experience with NG911, CAD systems, and weather monitoring devices
• Familiarity with public safety procedures and city policies

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $58,281.60 - $81,598.40 per year, depending on experience
• Additional compensation for TCOLE Telecommunicator certifications
