About the Role The Relay Apprentice - 2nd Year is a development role in Entergy's relay and protection group. Under close supervision, you will assist with testing, repairing, calibrating relays and related equipment in laboratory and field, and you may participate in storm restoration and substation activities.

What You'll Do

• Perform less difficult tasks involved in making tests, repairs, adjustments, and calibrations on relays, meters, telemeters, supervisory control, carrier current equipment, and related equipment, under close supervision.
• Assist in storm restoration in substations and with other groups.
• Operate computer applications for testing relays and equipment.
• Connect and read meters, instruments, and related devices; take notes in field and lab; prepare routine reports.
• Maintain housekeeping; use hand tools; handle ladders; operate Company vehicles and equipment.
• Connect and operate relay test equipment; read and understand wiring diagrams and drawings.
• Test relays (overcurrent, auxiliary relays, overvoltage, undervoltage, reclosure), Current Transformers (CT) and Potential Transformers (PT), perform DC checks on feeder breakers, and test CT/PT secondary injection circuits.
• Assist in switching and in constructing, installing, and maintaining relaying and related equipment.
• Interrogate solid-state/microprocessor relays for event reports and settings.

What We're Looking For

• Education/Experience: Associate degree in electronics, instrumentation, computers or engineering, AND at least 1 year of relay-related work/training, OR at least 1 year and qualification as Relay Apprentice 1st Year, OR at least 3 years of relay-related experience.
• Willingness to follow Company safety rules, administer basic first aid and resuscitation, and obtain/maintain required licenses (driver’s license, TWIC CIP or other background checks).
• Practical working knowledge of electrical circuits; ability to read wiring diagrams and blueprints; willingness to learn tagging rules; ability to perform routine operations of moderate complexity; responsibility for Company tools and equipment; familiarity with relay and spare parts truck.
• Ability to work extended hours for overtime or emergency situations; strong safety mindset and personal qualifications.
• Must live within 45 miles of the assigned service area or be willing to relocate (relocation benefits are not offered).
• This is a Safety Sensitive position and requires successful completion of the EEI TECH test; candidates selected to take the test will be invited.
