About this role
Wooster Games is seeking a remote, contract 2D/3D Game Artist focused on environment art. You will build environments for current and unannounced titles across VR, PC, and console, shaping the look, feel, and style of our games with real influence over art direction. This is a remote, contract position with hours fluctuating to production needs.
Responsibilities
- Create compelling 2D/3D environments, environment props, and other assets in a heavily stylized aesthetic
- Build environments that perform across VR, PC, and console, planning for each platform’s performance ceiling upfront
- Apply technical art skills in Unity, including materials and shader graphs, lighting, prefabs, addressables, and profiling assets on target hardware to ensure assets are visually correct in-engine
- Contribute to environment design, including blockouts, player flow, sightlines, and readability to ensure spaces are functional as well as visually appealing
- Create effective marketing assets to support launch and drive conversion, including 2D assets, trailers, and store art
- Collaborate with other artists and developers to improve the game
- Be available during US EST or PST time zones to collaborate with the team
Requirements
- Technical art ability in Unity, with comfort in the Editor code for materials, shaders, lighting, and asset optimization across multiple build targets
- Multi-platform experience, understanding trade-offs between VR, PC, and console targets
- Design instinct to take a space from gray box to shipped, with deliberate choices on how players move through it
- Experience using Blender, Unity, Figma, and Adobe tools
- Demonstrated creativity with a focus on unique characters and atmospheric environments
- Bonus: quick 2D concept art or hand sketches, Editor tooling that speeds up the art team, and experience with AI-assisted art or pipeline tools
