About the Role Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers (KIE) is looking for a Sr Utility Estimator to join our Lone Tree team. This role will support project pursuits and awarded projects by coordinating and managing Utility Design and SUE, acting as a subject matter expert in utility design and coordination on large infrastructure projects. What You'll Do
- Perform quantity takeoffs from source files including CAD, Microstation, or PDF.
- Prepare estimates for subcontracted and self-perform utility work including water, wastewater, gas, electric, telecom.
- Travel to project or pursuit offices, interface with other discipline estimators to ensure scope alignment.
- Input quantities into estimating software, apply unit pricing based on actual historical costs using Kiewit database; when historical costs are unavailable, prepare theoretical estimates.
- Research historical projects to determine past costs.
- Perform top-down estimates (ROMs) and bottom-up estimates by analyzing every aspect of every operation in detail.
- Prepare subcontractor bid packages – compiling quantities and writing detailed scope.
- Answer technical questions from bidders and work with Kiewit Supply Network to compile quote comparison sheets.
- Prepare and present estimate review packets.
- Prepare construction schedule by advising schedule technicians on activity logic, duration, and resource loading (manhours and quantity).
- Apply Kiewit standard account codes to estimated work.
- Continuously improve through self-paced training and debrief sessions. What We're Looking For
- Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree.
- 20+ years minimum experience, preferably 5 in estimating.
- Ability to open and manipulate .dwg, .dgn, .pdf files.
- Working knowledge of Bentley ProjectWise.
- Basic knowledge of utility construction means and methods; utility construction field management recommended.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of estimating software such as HCSS or Hard Dollar.
- Basic knowledge of heavy civil construction operations (grading, paving, drainage, structures).
- High attention to detail and strong self-checking abilities.
- Strong communication and coordination skills. Nice to Have
- SUE experience and utility coordination on design-build projects.
- Experience with water, sewer, gas, electric, telecom utilities in large projects. Compensation & Benefits
- Base compensation: $142,000/yr – $149,000/yr (variations based on education, experience, skillset, location).
