Work Schedule
- Fall/Spring Office hours are flexible, but must assist with conducting interviews to hire OWLs. In addition must attend meetings to plan mandatory training for OWLs and plan 2027 SOAR and Orientation Week programming.
- Must complete office hours between 8am-5pm Monday – Friday.
- Must attend mandatory OWL training in fall, winter, and spring semesters.
- During Summer Time Office hours are 15-20+ hours per week.
- Must attend mandatory OWL training dates and retreat.
- Must attend all SOAR dates in June and July along with Transfer Orientation dates
- Must attend all Orientation related events in August
- This position works on campus and not remotely.
- This position is for University of La Verne undergraduate students only.

Job Description Summary
The Orientation Student Assistant 2 are experienced Orientation Leaders who are paraprofessional members of the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership. Orientation Coordinators create a link between the Orientation Leaders, Office of Student Engagement and Leadership staff, and the La Verne community. A successful candidate will have demonstrated their ability to work independently and collaboratively, exhibit strong problem-solving skills, exercise good judgment and personal integrity. They have the ability to integrate the four core values of the university into their work: diversity and inclusivity, ethical reasoning, lifelong learning, and civic & community engagement. The Orientation Student Assistant 2 have the responsibility to work alongside the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership staff to coordinator the 2026 Summer, Advising, and Registration days. We will be selecting 2 Orientation Student Assistant 2.
Specific Duties
- Operate as part of the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership staff and a representative of the University of La Verne.
- Oversee & plan the social activities during SOAR Orientation program.
- Assist with the implementation of each Transfer Orientation program.
- Assist with the recruitment and selection of Orientation Leaders (OWLs).
- Provide training, guidance, and support to Orientation Leaders.
- Assist with administrative scheduling tasks.
- Assist Academic Advising with SOAR including assigning OWLs to various roles.
- Assist in budget planning, preparation, and reporting.
- Attend mandatory Coordinator retreat in Fall/Winter/Spring along with attend SOAR staff meetings and trainings.
- Manage the social media account.
- Implement a marketing initiative to communicate information to new students every month starting in June through August to our new incoming students.
- Perform duties as assigned, help as needed with duties that emerge over the course of New Student Orientation programming.
Minimum Qualifications
Prospective candidates must be in good academic standing (current cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above) at the University and not on academic or social probation.
- Prospective candidates must meet and maintain a 2.5 semester and cumulative GPA throughout their appointment. Grade Point Averages will be verified each subsequent semester while in office.
- Prospective candidates must be a traditional undergraduate student during the 2026-2027 academic year and the Fall 2027 semester.
- Must be a previous Orientation Leader (rehire).

Employees are eligible for the following benefits:
One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.
University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan – can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.
In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.
Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
